Coupeville Whidbey Island

We’ve completed a successful season of Gray Whale Watching!  We even had a day of bonus whale watching with transient Orcas in Possession Sound.  Many of the days we got good long looks at Stellar Sea Lions hauled-out on a navigational buoy.  The people of Coupeville, Whidbey Island were warm and welcoming.  Each stop in town we enjoyed the Olympic Mountain’s rain shadow effect that brings more sunshine and drier weather to Northern Whidbey Island.

We look forward to seeing our Gray Whale regular visitors, like Patch and Dubknuck, next year. We’d love to see you next year too!

If you missed out on Gray Whales, we’ll be starting up our San Juan – Orca Whale Watching trip May 21.

A whale of a day last weekend on the Victoria Clipper III! We encountered a pod of transient Orca Whales off Possession Point, the southern end of Whidbey Island. Our Naturalist, Stephanie, identified the male as T87.

Gray Whale WatchingAfter many ooohs and aaahs, we left the group and moved on to Gray Whales off the southern end of Gedney Island near Everett.  These whales appeared to be feeding as dove to bottom on to a shelf in about 25 feet of water. Stephanie believes these whales were Patch and #57 – Gray Whales that regularly visit this time of year. On our way to Coupeville a couple Harbor Porpoise showed themselves along with a few Stellar Sea Lions. While boarding our passengers back on the boat after lunch in sunny Coupeville, a Gray Whale swam right down the side of the boat at the dock!  Can you ask for more than that?
