How often do you get a chance to see a Broadway play in Victoria, BC? Since New York City is so far away, probably not very often, but if you like musicals, musical theater or are a fan of ABBA music or the television show Glee and want to see the action for yourself, I have good news for you: Mamma Mia! is coming to the Royal Theatre next summer on their North American Tour! It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. As a kid I remember that Christmas felt like the day that would never arrive. However, as I get older it seems to come faster and faster every year. And while it might have something to do with the fact that department stores seem to be putting up Christmas decorations right after Labor Day, as we are deep into November there is no denying that Christmas is almost here.
Whistler is one of my favorite places I have ever been to. So far, I’ve been their twice and the second time was as awesome as the first. This means I am very excited to let you know that Clipper Vacations is selling Whistler two day lift tickets this year in addition to our Whistler Overnight Packages. If you don’t know very much about Whistler, let me tell you a few of the things that I love about it.
When we arrived in Victoria on Sunday, October 9th the sun-splashed city was buzzing with activity. As we circled the crimson-leaf-covered Fairmont Empress Hotel trying to park and check in, we were besieged by runners, walkers, wheelchair marathoners, and throngs of children, all converging on the busy downtown harbor for the annual Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon.
White peaked tents, and stages with radio and tv stations were set up in front of the parliament Building as thousands of runners made their way to the finish line. Over the loud speakers I heard the runner’s names and cities announced and was surprised to hear there were so many marathon participants from our own neighborhood Bothell, then Seattle, Kirkland, Redmond, Auburn, Everett and so on. It’s called the Pacific Rim, this wild west furthest-most point of British Columbia in Canada – gazing to sea from my little Zodiac while out on a whale watching tour, the next land mass is… Japan!
I was wrapped up warm and dry, as I shared the bay with 4 or 5 large grey whales spouting and diving in the water around me, hardly making a ripple in the water at all. Calm and quiet, gentle giants, unaware that their presence was making momentous memories that I would cherish far into my dotage!

In 1987, at 83 years old she decided to dress up to celebrate Christmas, and 25 years later she is still going strong. She, of course, is The Butchart Gardens in Victoria and The Gardens will kick off the Christmas display with a light-up ceremony in Waterwheel Square on December 1st.
